Will grow and donate them to enrich critical conservation corridors.

Sri Lanka’s largest and most active conservation entity, the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society (WNPS), set up a not-for-profit, Preserving Land and Nature (Guarantee) Ltd, referred to under the acronym of PLANT, in late 2020. WNPS established PLANT to directly own, conserve, and preserve lands or help set aside privately owned lands through partners, in a manner which enhances all forms of wildlife and nature, and to hold land in trust, on behalf of future generations. With a mission to “Create uninterrupted or reasonably connected corridors of protected natural spaces and forest ecosystems, that safeguard Sri Lanka’s unique biodiversity”, the initiative has been making very strong progress. With over a thousand acres of land already under its protection within a short period, the focus has been on the South-western part of Sri Lanka, which has the highest biodiversity in the country, and the highest threat levels.
While several partners have supported PLANT to reach these heights, one of the major needs has been for the accelerated reforestation of some locations. “WNPS and PLANT are extremely happy to have Nature’s Beauty Creations Ltd, manufacturer of cosmetics brand Nature’s Secrets, join us as a strategic partner to provide us with the much-needed plant varieties and specialist advice which is a critical component of our journey. Their unwavering commitment to local foliage and valuable plant species is easily evident, and nurturing some of these rare plants within our locations with their help and inputs, is something we will value and also proudly carry forward” said Jehan CanagaRetna, the President of the WNPS. The WNPS team also received a copy of the company’s valuable publication for their library titled “A Collection of Medicinal Plants in Sri Lanka” which was handed over to the WNPS President, by the Director/Group CEO of Nature’s Beauty Creations Ltd (NBC), Samira Fonseka. The WNPS team was also able to visit the NBC Medicinal Plant Garden which has many rare varieties of plants from across the country. The multi-year partnership has NBC committing over 25,000 specialty plants for reforestation needs in the different WNPS PLANT properties.
“Through our ‘Sirilaka Osu Uyanak Karamu’ sustainability project, we had planned to grow and donate over 100,000 medicinal plants across the country from 2020 to 2025. We are very pleased to be joining with PLANT whose mission to increase Sri Lanka’s biodiversity strongly aligns with our ‘Sirilaka Osu Uyanak Karamu’ initiative,” commented Samira Fonseka, Director/Group CEO of NBC.
NBC is an award-winning, eco-friendly manufacturer of personal care brands Nature’s Secrets, Panda Baby, Champion and Misumi. It is the first & only cosmetics manufacturer to have won Sri Lanka’s National Green Award-Gold for its many sustainability initiatives. NBC also currently grows Sri Lanka’s largest privately owned collection of medicinal plants for research & conservation around its sustainable manufacturing complex.
